Ruminations of the Year Past

The year 2010 was a wonderful year in so many ways. It was a year of securing myself even further in my job. It was a year of good health, some prosperity and good work. The best thing about the year was continuing to build with my long-lost love. The worst thing about the year was him moving 1500 kilometres away, hopefully for a temporary time, but yet trying to keep a relationship going. His job is uncertain and that adds so much strain to the relationship.  Globally, there have been so many good and bad things happen, just like any other year.  Wars, natural disasters, bad governments and a variable economy have been around since Biblical times, and will continue.

Where Does My Charity Money Go?

If I had a million dollars to give to a charity, it would be split amongst several that my larger church body supports. It is very important to me that the money goes not to administration, but to actual charity work.  Having someone else (or a full committee, like in my church) screen and assess the various charities saves me the work and the uncertainty. As well, the church supports a wide range of charities, both far and near, and in a variety of mission projects. They support children, infrastructure rebuilding, medical work, families and religious teaching both in the local area and in faraway lands.

Cute as a Bug

My car is a dear little 1999 Volkswagen Beetle. It is black, automatic and gas powered, and yes, it does have the gas tank in the back. I drive it solely for the “cute” factor, as it is not as easy on gas as you might expect.  Also, storage is limited and it is a pain to get anything into or out of the back seat.  But, nothing beats breezing down the road, knowing you turn heads, and seeing the adorable little flower in the vase makes me smile.  If I could, I would buy a new model, complete with moon roof and in a saucy orange color.

To Be a Transplanted Canadian

If I could live anywhere in the world, it would be Georgetown, Grand Cayman.  As a Canadian, I hate winter and I love when the weather is 25 degrees Celsius with a light breeze. Imagine the tropical weather 365 days per year.  Also, I do prefer a more upscale living area without abject poverty. Think of working in a gem store or perfume shop, and waiting on the cruise ship customers all day long. Beaches would be easy to find, driving is well organized and the British tradition is everywhere. Being a British Canadian, I don’t want to lose that identity, and it’s nice to be away from the Excited States at times.
