One always dreams of living in a luxury. Winning lottery would make that dream come true. But, the question is, would I really want to live a life of luxury? Since I am quite content with the way our family lives, coming into a lot of money all of a sudden will certainly pose a stressful problem. The best thing would be to give away most of it. Then again, when actually faced with it, will I be able to bring myself to do it? Considering that my family is comfortably settled, the best thing to do with a windfall like winning a lottery would be to carefully spread the money around. I would want to use the money to educate kids who are smart but are unable to find the wherewithal to get the kind of education they long for. That will be a way of passing it forward, I think. Education may not necessarily make one wise, but I am sure it will help people understand the true value of life.

Usually, birthdays are made much of in all families. The celebrations reflect the financial clout of the parents. In our family, birthdays are quiet events. It is our tradition to rejoice in the life that God had given us by sharing our good fortune with those less privileged than we were. This meant that we would give gifts to those who serve in our household and others whom fee feel will be happy to have some goodies. We do have birthday parties, but the guests are invited to give gifts not to the birthday person, but to those with whom we wish to share our joy. We visit an orphanage or an old people’s home, and give them not only a treat but our time too. Out guests like it and we make great friends. We experience the truth in the saying that it is better to give than to receive.

Honeymoons was just right for newly weds who never got to know each other too well before they got married. But now, the couple who get married know each other only too well! I come from an orthodox family, in a country where honeymoon is not a planned event. Still parents make sure that the newly weds have a special time of their own. When I got married my parents arranged for us, the newly weds, to visit relatives who lived too far away to be present for the wedding. Such a trip provided time for us to spend on our own. Our ‘honeymoon’ was to go to the place where I was born and spend a few days with relatives who were too old to come for the wedding! This might not sound very exciting, but believe me, it was very nice to do things on our own and at the same time make our old relatives happy. We enjoyed ourselves, and received the blessings of the elders too.

Achievement is something that is difficult to define, in my opinion. For a baby, the first step is a great achievement. And I have done that, haven’t I? In my native language, it is said that it would be better not to be born at all, if one cannot live a life that is praiseworthy. What is meant here, as far as I am concerned, is that one should lead a life that is blameless. Is not such a life worth all the praise one can give? How many of us can honestly say that they live a blameless life? Anyway, in my own life, though it is not a blameless one, there have had small mile stones, which one might perhaps call as achievements. What I treasure most is the goodwill that I seem to have earned from all and sundry, during my three years as an administrator in a large educational institution. That I am fondly remembered, even after I have left the place years ago, is for me a great achievement.

There are any number of marvellous life forms that have made water their world to live in. But, for me there is nothing more elegant than a fish in water. Even the horrible white shark, with its terrible reputation, is elegance itself, when it swims around. I will not want to be such a huge fish. I would like to be small minnow, flashing its silvery scales as it darts about in the sunlit waters. It is not a colorful fish, and it occupies a lowly place in the hierarchy of fishes. But for all that it is a successful fish. That is what one wants in life, is it not, to be a success? Well, on second thoughts, I might want to be dolphin! They seem to have such fun, and live their lives exuberantly! And they are very intelligent too. May be I will spend my first year under water as a minnow, and then make a giant evolutionary leap and spend the next year as a dolphin! It would be a sad day indeed when I shall have to ‘revert’ to being just an ordinary human being!!

My idea of heaven is not one where one sits on cloud, harp in hand and singing away. It would a place where one would reach after ‘doing time’ for not keeping to the laws of life in this world. After one has learnt all the lessons for life, one would find oneself in heaven peacefully, joyfully, and quietly doing things that one longed to do in life but never had the skill to achieve it to perfection. Heaven, for me will be a place where one reaches perfection and is just quietly pleased with it, making others feel that way too. What else can be heaven, for anyone?

I have a very intimate friend. She is very affectionate and she shares everything with me. She likes to spend time with me. Of course she has helped me in many situations in various ways. The only thing which I do not like about her is her bad breath. She is very talkative and has the habit of coming so closer while talking. So when she starts talking I always try to move away from her or turn my face or cover my nose with handkerchief. She talks very impressively and I am a good listener too. I would tell her about this problem and I think she would understand me and agree to consult a dental doctor, so that the reasons for bad breath like gum problems or anything may be diagnosed. There by she can get rid of this problem.

It happened long back during my school days. I was in the examination hall writing the answers. The teacher who was the invigilator went out of the class room for some reason. At that time some of my classmates forced me to give my answer sheets for them to copy. When I hesitated to do so they threatened me to hurt me. I was afraid and gave my answer sheets. They wrote the exam quite well. Somehow the teachers came to know that I helped them in copying. I was all the teacher’s pet in the class. This incident worried me and the teachers as well. Now when I am grown up I feel that I should not have done such an act. Instead I should have advised my friends and offered help in their studies for the rest of the days. This is what I would do if I could go back in time.

I would tell him that he needs to stop being so stubborn and speak to me, and tell me what is wrong.
I remember going to school in a racist town, and well, one day a young black girl came into our Kindergarden class. No body would play with her, because she was black. I knew this because I was told by Ms. R**** P****, the most popular girl in my class, that if I hung out with her, I’d lose my friends. I was already very unpopular, and this didn’t appeal to me. if I could go back in time, I’d not have help alienate that girl, she didn’t deserve it. I probably would have made a life long friend out of the situation in the end, instead of a painful memory when I conformed to those around me.
